Aloha Phil,
Yes, secondary gain can not be overlooked, but it seemed to Dr. Abraham Maslow, the inventer of "Humanistic Psychology" and the idea of "secondary gain" (along with so others) that it was way overrated.
In my article of "The Professional Healer", Dr. Wingo published on my healing practice in 1983, I addressed this issue with a quote by Maslow. As I recall, Otha edited that portion down, fearing a copyright violation.
In any casde, Dr. Maslow reports a case in which a client was seeing him, who was cheating on his wife and had developed an intense rash. A secondary gain was suspected. Then it was discovered that his mistress had bedgugs which were biting him!
Dr. Masslow reported this to caution people from too heavy a leaning on psychomatic diseases.
The subject of secondary gain, other than addressed in (strict defination) Ho`opono and the Bach Flower Remedy counseling, is minimal with me.
But read my article on Huna Healing first. That explains a lot.
A Hui Hou,
Lani
