Yes, you are very correct in saying that there is a lot of variation in Hawaiian spiritual beliefs.That one thing that I have discovered to be VERY true. There are certain common themes, but specific practicetends to vary a lot between islands and even between parts of an island.Even the Hawaiian language shows this. The use of "k" vs. "t" and "l" vs. "r" (as in the Tahitian "taro" vs.Hawaiian "kalo" is not universal. The West side of Kaua'i tended to use "t" instead of "k." If you look at photographs of Kamehameha's actual signature, he clearly signs with a "t", not a "k". Given those variations in just the language,it's not very surprising to find wide variations in spiritual practise.Bill
