The book you mention by John F. Gilbey was in fact written by none other than
R.W.Smith one of the most knowledgeable modern teachers of Tai Chi Chuan who
trained in Taiwan with Cheng Man Ching. The Hawaiian martial art is called LUA and is
deeply linked with the the ancient Hula Kahiko of Hawaii. There is one teacher
of Lua on the mainland (USA) I believe his name is Charles Kenn though I could
be wrong. I dont know where to contact him. Try a post on the rec.martial.arts
newsgroup for more on LUA and teachers.
