the writings of the spiritual teacher George Gurdjieff
(in Life is Real only then when I AM) is directly relevant.
"Such is the nature of man,
that for your first gift - he prostrates himself;
for your second - kisses your hand;
for the third - fawns;
for the fourth-just nods his head once;
for the fifth - becomes too familiar;
for the sixth - insults you;
and for the seventh - sues you because he was not given enough"
I suspect that Max suffered from this quite a bit during his life time and
very clearly since his death. The desire to emulate and the challenges of following
any teaching often leads to jealousy and a desire to destroy the founder of any system.
Wilhelm Reich called it the emotional plague. Its a very pervasive disease in followers
of all the various psycho-spiritual and religious teachings.
